On Wednesday night, the Wethersfield Junior High Gym was on fire for the last seventh and eighth grade regular volleyball season games.

The seventh grade started strong in the first set. The team took an early lead over ROWVA, making the score 9-1.

An eighth-grader goes high for a serve.

They demonstrated great communication and teamwork to help them stay ahead.

The first set ended 25-7 in favor of the Geese.

The second set had the same momentum with the Geese leading 13-1. Both great defense by the Geese and mistakes made by ROWVA contributed to the score.

The Geese closed out the game with a score of 25-5.

The student section was alive the whole night as they helped cheer on the teams to victory.

Some boys even went the extra mile of creating an ESPN table to bring more fun to the game.

The seventh-grade team finished their regular season with an undefeated record of 18-0.

The eighth-grade team also had an impressive game.

The start of the first set was great for the Geese. Players showcased their many skills and gained an insurmountable lead. ROWVA couldn’t catch up, allowing the Geese to win 25-9.

The second set started a bit differently with ROWVA fighting back.

The score remained neck and neck for most of the game.

The Geese were able to prevail with a final score of 25-20.

The eighth grade finished their regular season with a record of 14-4.

Coach Tonya Vincent said, “Both teams have improved tremendously this season, and are at a good place finishing out the regular season. We have girls who work hard, listen to feedback, and want to improve.

“These are three key things that we need to keep up for continued success.”

While the games spotlighted the two teams grit and skills, they will need to work harder than ever heading into postseason.

Seventh-grade regionals will begin Feb. 28 at Wethersfield. Eighth-grade regionals will begin March 7, also at Wethersfield.
