Wethersfield High School is holding its homecoming festivities this week.
The theme for this year is “Lights, Cameras, Action!” The high school has a week of exciting dress up days, as follows:
Monday — “Opening Scene Day,” also known as class theme day. Each grade has a different movie theme/genre, and the school holds a hallway decorating contest. Seniors have chosen “Superheroes” as their theme. For the juniors, “Disney” is the theme. The sophomores decided on just one movie, “The Wizard of Oz.” The freshman decided on “Musicals,” and their hallway features a variety of musicals like Hamilton, Hairspray, Phantom of the Opera, etc. For example, the junior students dressed as Disney characters.
Tuesday — “Double Feature Day,” a duo/trio day for students.
Wednesday — “Star Power,” Whether it be their best red carpet moment, or their most iconic movie, students dress as their favorite Hollywood star.
Thursday — “Casting Colors,” for each grade to wear their class shirt, or to go crazy with their color.
Friday — “Remember the Titans,” students dress in their favorite AW Titans gear.
Also during homecoming week, students have a chance to get points towards their class. The points consist of hallway decoration winners, percentage of class participation with dress up days, and two new ways: Starting this year, students can get points by finding pictures of ducks and also by getting kindness slips. The duck pictures are hidden throughout the school and the kindness slips are handed out by teachers after they witness a student acting kind.
Monday will be the annual pork chop lunch for students, followed by an assembly.
Thursday will be Skit Night, a night for groups/grades to come up with a fun skit to show off. Skit Night starts at 6:30 p.m. Also, during Skit Night, upperclassman can compete in a talent show called Mr./Ms. Titan.
Friday, the homecoming game kicks off at 7 p.m. and the student section theme is “Neon.” The school day will also end early for the homecoming parade, which is 1:15-1:45 p.m.
Saturday, the homecoming dance will be held in the high school gym, starting at 8 p.m.
