I was digging through my grandmother’s recipe box again this week and came across a typed recipe card with her name written on it. It made me think that it was a recipe from a friend that my grandmother had enjoyed at a get-together.

The recipe was for cinnamon bread, and I thought I’d give it a try. It featured ingredients that I had on hand, and it only took me 15 minutes to prepare it for the oven. It baked for an hour, and the wonderful smell of cinnamon filled the house.
My son, Max, and I tried it together after it cooled down a bit. It was incredible! We enjoyed it warm, with and without butter – both delicious options. This is definitely one I will make again.
The recipe calls for sifting the dry ingredients together, and that is not something I completed. It also calls for buttermilk or sour milk, and I used 1 tablespoon of vinegar with 1 cup of milk to make the sour milk. I’ve never made a recipe before where I swirled cinnamon, but I believe I will be able to do that a bit better next time, swirling more vertically and less horizontally. I also used parchment paper at the bottom of the pan to make it easy to extract from the pan.

Given that this recipe was likely from a friend and was enjoyed together, I decided that I would rename it, “Friendship Cinnamon Bread.” It is the perfect option for sharing over coffee or as a dessert with a friend, or even a delicious treat to drop off to a friend or neighbor that will surely be enjoyed.
From our kitchen to yours – enjoy!
