The Kewanee Historical Society Museum is hosting a “Night at the Museum” on Saturday, Aug. 3, at 3 p.m. The free event is open to the public and will feature guest speaker and Kewanee native Bill Scott, who will speak on his glory days of racing.

Scott is well-known in Kewanee for good reason. In 1959, he participated in the annual Handlebar Race in Daytona Beach. Scott won the Daytona 100 race on his modified 1958 750 KR Harley-Davidson. The race took place part on asphalt and part on sand. During the race, he averaged 93 mph for his first 25 laps.

March 7, 2024 marked the 65th anniversary of Scott’s Daytona Beach win.
