Little Piggy Library Scavenger Hunt – Aug. 18-29

Each clue is a fun twist on the classic This Little Piggy rhyme leads you on a journey through the library. Start at the clue station, trot through five stops and collect a prize.  Completing the hunt will also earn you a chance to win a prize basket that includes tickets for the Hog Days carnival.  

Hog Days History – Aug. 13 at 6 p.m.

Larry Flannery and the Hog Days Committee will share some Hog Days history.

Sew Your Own Hog Days Mascot – Aug. 214-6 p.m. 

Pigs just wanna have fun and so do we! Sew Your Own Hog Days mascot.  Don’t worry if you’ve never sewn before, the staff will help you every step of the way.  All supplies will be provided.

Yoga with Deb Lindbeck – Aug. 19 at 2 p.m.

Interested in exploring yoga? Deb Lindbeck will be at the library for a basic yoga session, built for beginners. Learn foundational yoga poses, breath awareness and simple mindfulness techniques to improve flexibility, balance and relaxation.

Investing and Financial Planning Series – Aug. 12 and Sept. 9

These are the final two programs in an investment and financial planning series. On Aug. 12 at 2 p.m., learn the foundations of investing and build your IQ by learning the importance of a strategy, the impact of allocating assets and more. On Sept. 9, learn how to outsmart the scammers — spot the red flags, what resources you can use if you fall victim to fraud and steps you can take to protect yourself.

Young Adult Programming

— On Aug. 8 from 1-3 p.m. anyone between can stop by the Young Adult room on the lower level to play ames on the gaming television.  Snacks will be proved.

— The Young Adult Craft Club will meet Aug. 20 from 1-3 p.m. 

Youth Programming

— Starting in August, the  Movement and Music Story Time will be merged with Baby to PreK Story Time. There will be two story times a week.  Throughout fall, story times will be Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11:15 a.m., with a short break in September to give time to prepare programs; Story Time will resume Sept. 16.  

Facebook Story Time will go live at 10:15 a.m. every Tuesday that there is a baby to preK story time. You can watch the video whenever it fits into your schedule.

— Taking a family vacation or a quick road trip? We’ve got your entertainment covered with our KPLD travel bags. Stop in five days before you leave and fill out a form. That information will be used to create a bag with books and activities. Then simply return the books to us when you return.

Adult Book Club – Aug. 18 at 2 and 6 p.m.

The group will discuss The Mystery Guest: A Maid Novel by Nita Prose. Anyone attending the evening meeting should enter the building through the elevator entrance on the north side of the building. Copies of the book are available for checkout at the Information Services desk on the lower level. Next month the group will read Canary Girls by Jennifer Chiaverini. 

Recipe Round-Up – Aug. 12 at 2 pm

It’s simple to join. Just find a recipe matching the theme of the month, cook it and bring it, along with copies of your recipe, to the meeting. The theme for August is Foreign Foods. Stop by at noon with your recipe and dish.

Digital Literacy Class 

Available topics are Essential Computer Skills, Essential Software Skills and Technology Tools in Daily Life. Specific questions will be answered at the classes, which are by appointment; call at 852-4505 and ask for the Information Services desk to schedule yours.

Creativity @ the Carnegie

Knitting, crochet, embroidery, cross stitch and quilting are the topics in the community room on the second Tuesday of each month from 4 to 6 p.m. For more information, stop by or give us a call at 309-852-4505.
