Those people wishing to become student teachers, food handlers or healthcare professionals will be interested in upcoming events at Black Hawk College.

Substitute teacher, paraprofessinal

Staff from the Regional Office of Education will explain the process and requirements for becoming a substitute teacher or paraprofessional.

The class is free; however, registration is required.

Food protection management

If you know what is required of you as a Food Protection Manager, then this fast-paced class is for you. 

This program meets the class and exam requirements for the Food Protection Management Certification for Illinois and Iowa. The class and exam use ServSafe, which is ANSI-CFP accredited.

At the end of the class, students will take the ServSafe online exam and receive their  results immediately. Certification is valid for five years after completion of the class and passing the exam.

Class will break for a 30-minute lunch on the student’s own. Students  must bring a current photo ID to take the exam.

Students have the option of purchasing the ServSafe Manager Book at the Outreach Center for $59. The book is available in English and Spanish and can be purchased before class. Book sales are final – no refunds allowed.

Those who need to retest for food protection manager certification may call to register for a test session at (309) 796-8223. If it has been more than six months since they last took the class, they will need to register for the class again.

The exam may be taken twice within a 30-day period, if necessary. If a third attempt is required, a 60-day wait is required since the last attempt. No more than four attempts are allowed in a 12-month period.

Classes wlll be held at the Community Education Center (CEC), 404 E. Third St., Kewanee.

Health Care Career Fair

Looking for a job in health care? Local health care employers will be recruiting at Black Hawk College on Thursday, April 18.

The Health Care Career Fair will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Health Sciences Center at the college’s Quad-Cities Campus, 6600 34th Ave., Moline.

The Health Sciences Center (HSC) is south of 34th Avenue just past Building 3. Building 3 is under construction but the HSC is still accessible.

Those attending should bring plenty of résumés.
