New this year, the volunteers at Windmont Park are inviting groups, families, or businesses to help support the park lighting efforts by sponsoring and decorating swings which line the park.
Each December, the park is awash in lighted beauty from the hard work and dedication of volunteers. This annual display allows numerous people to experience the magic and wonder of the park during the Christmas season free of charge.
The crew of volunteers have changed over a small number of lighted fixtures to LED bulbs, but they still are not yet 100% LED. Changing the old fixtures, which area residents love, is a laborious process and takes many strands of new LED lights. In order to keep the magic going and the LED conversion moving ahead, the park lighting crew needs your help.

Windmont Park has seven swings, and the crew would like to see them all decorated by a group, family, or business. Participants would decorate a swing for the holiday and take it down in January.
Your swing will have your family, group, or business name and logo on a sign at the swing. It’s great for advertising or just a way to help celebrate the season. Swings to be decorated can be reserved for a $200 donation and are on a first-come first-serve basis. All donations will go directly to the LED upgrade project helping to create a brighter future for Windmont Park.
The lighting crew has issued the following guidelines for decorating your swing:
- Nothing electrical can be placed on the chains of the swing for safety.
- Please maintain your own display between December to January. Feel free to add and remove elements throughout the month if you’d like. This helps our park volunteers maintain the tens of thousands of other lights in the park.
- Please be considerate of the swings to keep them beautiful for years to come. We ask you please remove any staples and zip ties you use on Jan. 1.
The lighting crew is inviting the public to “Get creative! Show us what you got!”
Let’s keep the memories going at Windmont Park this December. Please register for your swing on a first-come, first-serve basis by contacting Dianne Packee at 309-312-0168.
