Christmas is just around the corner and that means the Angel Tree will be in place near the entrance of the Kewanee Walmart this Saturday.

The Salvation Army sponsors the gift-giving program each year to ensure that Kewanee children, ages 1 to 13, get some presents under the tree.

The program is coordinated by Heather Dana and Amber Patch-Troxell and the application deadline to sign up a child for the Angel Tree has been extended to Monday, Nov. 25.

Families must qualify for the project and meet several requirements including possessing a medical card. Children must be between the ages of 1 and 13 and reside within the Kewanee and Wethersfield school districts. Driver’s licenses and medical cards must be presented along with a bill from the current address at time of application.

According to The Salvation Army, applications that don’t meet all of the requirements won’t be processed, but those with difficulties filling out the form can contact a Salvation Army staff member or volunteer for assistance. Incomplete applications will automatically be ineligible for the program.

Salvation Army Director Eddie Toliver said that he hopes to see the tags fly off the tree this year.

“Give generously to help children have a Merry, Merry Christmas,” said Toliver, adding that groups can request multiple angels from the tree.

Gift pickup will be Thursday and Friday, Dec. 19 and Dec. 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 119 N. Tremont St. Those recipients who can’t make those dates should contact the Salvation Army to make an appointment for pickup.

Applications can be submitted online at https://www.saangeltree.org.
