The Geneseo City Council on Tuesday received updates on the city’s wind turbine, water infrastructure projects and several upcoming community events.

It was reported that Turbine 1 has been out of service since April 30. An inspection indicates the outage is likely due to a generator fault, with a component believed to have come loose and shorted the windings. The city carries insurance for the turbine, with a $100,000 deductible, and repair costs are expected to exceed that amount.

Turbine 1 has been out of service since April. The Geneseo City Council discussed the repair costs at the June meeting.

A generator replacement could take six to nine months. Council members were also told the city could consider decommissioning the turbine or repowering it with a new unit, which could increase energy production.

Work on the North water tower is expected to be completed around June 20–21. Once finished, the city can begin lead service line replacements in the area between North and South streets.

The council also heard the city’s annual audit report. Lauterbach & Amen issued a clean, unmodified opinion, noting no issues with internal controls or financial reporting. The city’s general fund increased by $1.4 million, bringing the total to $11.4 million.

Council members also noted upcoming community events:

–Thrill on the Hill will take place July 3, featuring The Collective, a 1970s and 1980s cover band.

–Pork in the Park and the Aisle of Flags are scheduled for July 4.

–The rain date for the Thrill on the Hill fireworks is Sept. 5, following the Labor Day concert. Dancing Queen, an ABBA tribute band, will perform that evening.

–Geneseo Shoot the Loop events are set for June 13, July 11 and Aug. 8.
