To kick off the 2025-26 Wethersfield Flying Geese boys’ basketball season, they played Elmwood on Nov. 24, as their first game in the annual Wally Keller Turkey Tournament.

The Geese ended the game with an unfortunate loss with a final score of 42-61.

The Geese lead scorers for this game were junior Collin Hodge with 13 points, junior Kruz Galbraith with 8, and senior Drew Hornback with 7. 

They held their game strong, finishing with 16-23 Elmwood after the first half. 

On Nov. 25, the Flying Geese took on the Putnam County Panthers. This game was an intense, nail-biting game for the players and fans. 

The Geese started strong, holding a three-point lead at the end of both the first and second period. They ended the first period with a 16-13 lead, and the second with a 33-30 lead. 

The second half got rocky, with the Geese and Panthers going back and forth with the score. 

The final score of the game was the first win of the season for the Flying Geese, with a 49-48 score. Hodge splashed a buzzer-beater shot, winning the game for the Geese.

The lead scorers for this game were Hornback with 11 points, sophomore Alejandro Garcia with 10 points, and juniors Galbraith and Hodge, with 8 apiece.

On Nov. 26, the Geese faced the Stark County Rebels, a long-standing rival. 

The Geese held a lead over the Rebels throughout the whole game. They finished the first period with a 20-11 lead. At the half, the Geese were up 31-20. 

The lead scorers of the night were Galbraith with 14, Hornback and Hodge scoring 10, and Garcia scoring 6. 

KWQC had touched on this game and had said, “Then a minute later, it’s Galbraith again, the hot hand, with the corner three.” 

The Geese took the overall win, with a final score of 48-38. 

On Friday, Nov. 28, the Geese took on the Rockridge Rockets and the Annawan Braves.

To kick off the final day of the tournament, the Geese played the Rockets but faced a loss.

The Geese battled hard throughout the first half, ending the first period with the Rockets up 16-17, and ended the first half with a 27-27 tie. 

Coming out to the second half of the game, the Geese seemed to have lost their drive to win. They ended the game with a 43-69 loss. 

The lead scorers for this game were Galbraith with 13, Hornback with 11 and Hodge with 8. 

To end the night, the Geese took on the Annawan Braves. 

The Geese again took home a loss, with the final score 49-70. 

The lead scorers for that game were Hornback with 22 and Galbraith with 14.

The 2025 Wally Keller Tournament champions were the Elmwood Trojans, with the Annawan Braves as the runner-ups.

The tournament MVP was Garrett Webster from Elmwood.
