The Wethersfield youth basketball program has been an ongoing tradition since it was originally created by former WHS Coach Jeff Parsons.
During the Saturday morning practices, the young athletes were given the opportunity to develop their playing skills, all while creating a closer community.

During the league, the Wethersfield High School girls and boys basketball teams took on the responsibility of coaching those in first, second, third and fourth grades. The league is a chance for the high school players to demonstrate leadership qualities, which allowed for the younger participants to learn from experienced athletes.
The youth basketball league program is an excellent opportunity for the kids to enhance their skills. They learned techniques that are even practiced at the high school level. The high school players served as role models by sharing their own experiences with the younger participants. This guidance both improved the basketball skills of the youth and engrained a sense of dedication.
The highlight of this program was the introduction and scrimmage during Tuesday’s high school boys basketball game.
At halftime, the young players had the opportunity to experience the atmosphere of a high school basketball game while showcasing their skills to friends and family. This event boosts the confidence of the young athletes, which may encourage them to pursue their passion for the sport in the future.

The youth basketball league, organized by the Wethersfield high school boys and girls basketball teams shows the importance of community-based sports programs. Community building programs make a positive impact on the community and provide young individuals with valuable life lessons.
