Police responded to a burglary complaint involving a suicidal subject who broke into a home and stole a loaded firearm while leaving a suicide note behind in the 200 block of NW 5th Street. The offender was located several days later, and the firearm was returned. The complainant declined to pursue charges.

Police responded to a 9-1-1 call that plotted in the 600 block of SE 2nd Street. It was determined to be a misdial.

Police responded to an unknown complaint in the 300 block of SW 3rd Street. The subject was having a mental health crisis.

Police saw three solicitors walking in the 400 block of SE 6th Avenue. The subjects did not have a permit and were told to cease their activities until a permit was obtained.

Police assisted with the recovery of a set of car keys that were found in the 900 block of SE 2nd Street. The owner soon called, and the keys were returned.

July 11:

Police checked on the welfare of a subject at a residence on NE 5th Avenue. It was learned the resident had recently been moved to a nursing home.

Police responded to a request by the Kewanee Police Department to check a Galva address for a suspect in a disorderly conduct complaint they were handling.

Shandi Gustafson, 38, Galva, was arrested for domestic battery and resisting or obstructing a police officer after police responded to a domestic disturbance in the 400 block of SE 1st Street. She was taken to the Henry Co Jail.

July 12:

Police assisted a motorist in the 600 block of SE 2nd Street. A wrecker ultimately removed the disabled car.

Police made contact with a missing/endangered person reported missing several days earlier. The missing person’s info was removed from the LEADS computer.

July 14

Police responded to a vehicle that was stuck on the NE 2nd Street railroad crossing tracks. Within a couple of minutes, an Eastbound Amtrak came through and struck the disabled vehicle, which was unoccupied at the time. The vehicle received significant damage, but no injuries were reported.
