Galva’s Lambda Nu Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority is hosting its 45th annual fall craft show on Saturday, Oct. 18.
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Galva High School gymnasium.
Approximately 100 vendors participate, offering a wide range of arts and crafts for sale. Holiday crafts are plentiful, with Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas décor topping the list.
Jewelry, doll clothes, ornaments, floral wreaths, wood crafts, pumpkins, knitted items, ceramics, garden art, baskets and candles are just a few of the things on display.
“There is something for everyone,” said Chairperson Michelle Cheline.
She, along with Reservations Chair Amy Corkill, Food Chair Vicki Conner, and Purchasing and Inventory Chair Gina Loveall, leads the 20-member group that works for weeks to put on the event.
“We are the largest craft show in the county and love showcasing the talented craftspeople that fill the aisles,” she said.
Homemade BBQ will be served in the school cafeteria for a small fee, along with chips and a drink. A variety of desserts will also be available for purchase. Admission remains at $2, and pets and strollers are not allowed.
As with last year, a tented area on the east side of the high school building will expand the craft show’s many offerings. The area is protected from the weather and provides easy access for shoppers.
Each May, the sorority awards a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior girl. They also support numerous local organizations, including the Galva Freedom Fest, the Galva Fire Department, Galva Schools, the Public Library, Galva Food Pantry, the Lions Club Empty Stocking Fund, Levitt Amp Music Series and the Galva Arts Council.
“We use the craft show profits to help Galva. Giving back to the community is one of our main goals, and we’re proud of what we’ve accomplished over the years,” said Cheline, who also serves as the chapter’s treasurer.
Beta Sigma Phi is an international women’s organization with a focus on social, cultural, and civic enrichment. Founded in 1931 in Abilene, Kansas, Beta Sigma Phi initially began as a reading society for women but has since evolved into a global sorority with chapters in the US, Canada, Asia, Europe, and the Caribbean.
It boasts more than 200,000 members worldwide who participate in philanthropic activities, social events, and educational programs, with a focus on creating a strong sisterhood and serving their communities.
Vendor applications are sent out in mid-April each year. Those interested in participating in the 2026 Craft Show are encouraged to contact the sorority at www.galvacraftshow.weebly.com.
“Once we close the doors on the 2025 Craft Show, we start planning for next year,” said Cheline. “It’s a team effort and considered a labor of love. We hope to keep it going for many years to come.”
