There were no injuries in an early-morning fire that destroyed a vacant house at Lake Street and Ladd Avenue.
Fire Chief Stephen Welgat issued a news release Saturday morning that said the fire department was dispatched to a report of a structure fire in the 1700 block of Lake Street at 1:22 a.m. Saturday.
When they arrived, firefighters found a two-story residence fully involved in fire.
“Upon arrival, fire crews extinguished flames outside the house, then proceeded to the interior of the home, which is an abandoned property,” the news release said. “No residents were in the home.”
Fire crews were on scene for 3 1/2 hours. There were no injuries, and the structure is deemed a total loss.
“Kewanee Fire Department investigators are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the fire, which is unknown at this time,” the news release said.
The fire department was assisted by the Kewanee Police Department, the Kewanee Community Fire Protection District and the Annawan-Alba Fire Protection District.
