The Kewanee Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at a vacant mobile home near Lake and Coal streets early Thursday morning.
Upon arrival, fire crews encountered heavy smoke and flames showing from the structure. “Firefighters immediately initiated an aggressive attack and were able to quickly extinguish the blaze, preventing it from spreading to neighboring properties,” Fire Chief Jake Forney wrote in a news release.
“Fortunately, the mobile home was vacant at the time of the incident, and there were no injuries reported,” the news release said.
Due to the severity of the fire, the property has been declared to be a total loss.
Following a preliminary investigation, officials have determined that the fire was intentionally set. However, the exact cause and nature of the ignition remained undetermined this morning.
“The Kewanee Fire Department would like to thank the Kewanee Police Department, Kewanee Community Fire Protection District and Stark County Ambulance for their assistance during the incident,” Forney wrote.
