The driver of a truck that ran off the road and struck two houses in the 800 block of East Second Street Tuesday “was not under the influence of any substance at the time of the accident,” according to a news release issued by Kewanee police Thursday afternoon.

In the release, Police Chief Stephen Kijanowski wrote that the driver, Albert Greene, 56, of Crete, Ill., “has voluntarily provided his medical records and allowed medical staff from OSF St. Francis (in Peoria) to speak with detectives from the Kewanee Police Department.”

Greene also provided a statement to police detectives, the chief wrote.

“It has been determined that Mr. Greene was not under the influence of any substances at the time of the accident, nor did he suffer a medical emergency,” Kijanowski wrote. He added that Greene was in stable condition Thursday.

The truck driven by Greene struck two houses, one of which was deemed unsafe and was demolished after the accident. Police said no one was injured in either of the houses.

WinSupply, a Mokena, Ill., company and the owner of the semi-truck involved in the accident, has been “fully cooperative throughout the investigation,” according to Kijanowski. “They provided dash and cab camera footage from their vehicle, which captured both the moments leading up to and during the accident,” he added.

“Based on the findings from the ongoing investigation, the contributing factors to the accident have been identified as excessive speed and unfamiliarity with the area. These factors played a significant role in the accident,” the news release said.

Greene was ticketed for speeding 46 mph in a 30 mph zone, disobeying a stop sign and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident according to the release. He has a court date of Oct. 25 at 9 a.m. at the Kewanee Courthouse.
