Mike DeWalt will be honored as this year’s 2023 Hog Days Parade Marshal. DeWalt was chosen for the recognition by the Kewanee Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Club.

After 36 years with Caterpillar, the 1976 Kewanee High School graduate retired in 2017 as the vice-president of Financial Services. After retirement Mike started volunteering for the Kewanee Historical Society and became president in 2019.

During his short tenure with the Historical Society he has improved the many holdings of the Museum and was the person taking the lead in the new Historical Society building in downtown Kewanee. It is for this major undertaking for the city of Kewanee the Ambassador Club is naming DeWalt as the 2023 Hog Days Parade Marshal.

The Parade will kick off Saturday, September 2 at 2 p.m. with Kewanee Police Chief Nick Welgat hitting the siren signaling the start of the parade.

This year’s parade will also feature the United States Marine Corp Band from New Orleans, La.

Anyone interested in being in the parade may sign up online by clicking on the Hog Day Parade tab on the Chamber website www.kewanee-il.com. Entry deadline is August 21st.

The Ambassador Club of Kewanee, which is the public relations committee of the Kewanee Chamber of Commerce, traditionally takes on the duties of the parade for the Hog Capital Festival Committee.
