The final tally of the Kewanee Salvation Army’s 2024 Red Kettle campaign is in and the totals fell shy of the goal, according to Eddie Toliver, director of 360 Life Center.
“This year’s goal was $48,000,” he said.
Through the efforts of their volunteers a total of $32,181.67, almost $16,000 under the campaign’s goal, was raised with the help of 285 volunteers who assisted with the fundraising and distribution.
“We served 1,094 people. Which is the combined total of Angel Tree angels and persons served by our other social services in December,” said Toliver.
The funds collected through the year and during the kettle campaign go towards supporting year-round social service programs.
Some of the things those programs help with are housing and utility assistance, short-term emergency shelter, emergency transportation and medical assistance, work clothing, school supplies, personal care items, clearing supplies and non-refrigerated food items.
While the red kettles have been collected and put away for the season, that doesn’t mean the Salvation Army isn’t continuing to solicit donations to meet their goal.
Donations to assist with emergency needs for area residents can be made to The Kewanee Salvation Army, 119 N. Tremont St., Kewanee, or donations can be dropped off at the downtown store location.
