The case against a Kewanee man charged with possession of child pornography was continued after his attorney, Public Defender Lance Camp, sought more time from the court to speak with his client and await discovery.

Matthew C. Derr, 31, appeared in Henry County Circuit Court Thursday. He had previously pleaded not guilty to one count of possession of child pornography at a preliminary hearing in June.

Derr’s arrest by Kewanee police in May prompted the department to release a statement on May 8.

According to the KPD, Derr’s arrest was a result of a cyber tip from the Illinois Attorney General’s Office that launched an investigation into the matter by the KPD Investigations Division.

Possession of child pornography is a Class 2 felony punishable by three to seven years in the custody of the Illinois Department of Corrections and a fine of up to $100,000.

The case was continued until Aug. 15.
