The case against a Kewanee man will proceed to trial after he signed a waiver giving up his right to a preliminary hearing and formal arraignment in Henry County Circuit Court Monday.
Matthew C. Derr, 31, Kewanee, appeared in court with his attorney, Henry County Public Defender Lance Camp. Derr is charged with one count of possession of child pornography.

Camp also requested a jury trial, preservation of the audio and video evidence and entered a plea of not guilty on the defendant’s behalf.
The Kewanee Police Department announced Derr’s arrest in a news release issued on May 8. According to the release, Derr’s arrest was the result of a cyber tip from the Illinois Attorney General’s Office, and followed an investigation by the KPD’s Investigations Division. His first court appearance was on June 3.
Possession of child pornography is a Class 2 felony punishable by three to seven years in the custody of the Illinois Department of Corrections and a mandatory fine of up to $100,000.
A pretrial hearing is set for July 11.
