Kewanee’s First United Methodist Church, decorated for Christmas, was the setting for the Kewanee Community Choir’s Christmas concert Sunday.

The Kewanee Community Choir gave the first of its four performances of this year’s Christmas concert at First United Methodist Church Sunday.

The First United Methodist Church Bell Choir joined the community choir for this selection.

Elle Eastman, a Wetherfield High School student who is a part of the Kewanee Voice Student Journalism Program, attended the concert and took these photos.

Rose Wexell accompanied the choir on piano.

The choir’s selections ranged from the sacred — “O Holy Night” and “Silent Night” — to the lighthearted, a Christmas-themed arrangement of the Big Band piece “In The Mood.”

Sue Sagmoen directed the choir and sang along with the audience on the final selection, “Silent Night.”

The Community Choir will perform some of its pieces for Tuesday’s meeting of the Kewanee Rotary Club. Beginning at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, the choir will give another public performance of its full concert at the Kewanee Senior Citizens Center. And next Sunday, First Congregational Church in Galva will be the setting for the choir’s final performance of the season,

Audience members listen to one of the choir’s numbers.

Choir member Linnea Gustafson shared Christmas messages with the audience between songs. Rose Wexell was the piano accompanist, and Theresa Yarger played the church’s pipe organ on one selection. Vanessa Fite is the director of the bell choir.
