The annual Community Black History Extravaganza, hosted by the Community Black History Committee, will be held at the First Congregational Church, located at 224 W. Prospect St., on Sunday, Feb. 18.

The event, celebrated each year during Black History Month, will begin at 2 p.m., and feature the Wethersfield High School Choir with songs and music from local churches.

Winners of an essay contest, hosted by the City of Kewanee’s Commission on Human Relations, will also be present and the winning students from grades fourth-sixth and grades seventh and eighth from Kewanee, Wethersfield and Visitation will be invited to attend the program. Top prizes include a $100 gift card.

Special guests include Mayor Gary Moore, city officials and council members, Tyrone Baker, Rep. for Travis Weaver, Rep. Eric Sorenson, school administrators, community leaders, and recipients of the Dr. Ronald Thompson Memorial Scholarship and the Floyd Blanks Memorial Scholarship.
