Classes are canceled for Wednesday after the campus was closed due to a fire on Tuesday.

The college released this statement Tuesday afternoon:

“Earlier today, a small fire occurred in the Auto Shop and Ag Mechanic Lab area at the Black Hawk College East Campus. 

“The fire was contained quickly in Building C and no injuries occurred. Students and employees at the East Campus have been released and campus is closed for the remainder of the day.

The college later released a news release stating that the college will remain closed Wednesday, Sept. 10 following a fire earlier today (Tuesday, Sept. 9).

All East Campus classes will shift to remote instruction through the remainder of this week (through Friday, Sept. 12).

“Black Hawk College would like to extend its appreciation to local police, fire and rescue response teams.”

Firefighters from five area departments responded to the fire.
