Kewanee’s annual Citywide Cleanup Day is just a week away and will give residents the perfect excuse to clear out clutter.

The cleanup day is set for Saturday, June 7 from 7 a.m. to noon. A rain date will be a week later on Saturday, June 14. This event is open to Kewanee residents only and those participating must have a copy of their utility bill and photo ID.

The drop off location is the site of the former Kewanee Hospital at West Division and Rockwell Street. Vehicles must be hand unloadable and participants should be prepared to unload their items themselves. To enter the site enter Elliott St. from West Prospect St., drive south on Elliott Street and turn west onto West Division Street. Have your photo ID and utility bill ready.

The following items will be accepted: Mattresses, furniture, yard furniture, water heaters, appliances, metal junk items, scrap wood, paint with lids removed and paint inside dried, carpet, toilets, and other miscellaneous junk.

Moore Tires has joined forces with the City of Kewanee and will be accepting tires at the site. They will accept passenger and light truck tires only. Tires should be clean of debris. Tires with rims will not be accepted and there is a limit of eight tires per household. The first 125 tires will be collected at no charge. Once 125 tires have been collected they will implement a charge of $3.90 per tire to be paid to Moore Tire on site.

The following items will not be accepted: Electronic items, toxic materials, liquid paint, cleaning solvents, motor oil, batteries, liquid items of any sort, landscape waste, slate siding, shingles, concrete, brick, masonry, railroad ties, construction or demolition and roof materials.

If you have any questions or are in doubt of an item being accepted, call City Hall at 309-852-2611.
