The semi-annual citywide cleanup will be held Saturday, May 13, from 7am to noon at the old Kewanee Hospital site at West Division and Rockwell streets. Rainout date is May 20.
The cleanup is for Kewanee residents only. Those bringing materials for disposal must have a city utility bill and photo ID.
The following items WILL NOT be accepted:
Electronic items, Toxic materials, Liquid paint, Cleaning solvents, Motor oil, Batteries, Liquid items of any sort, Tires, Landscape waste, Slate siding, Shingles, Concrete, Brick, Masonry, Railroad ties, Construction or Demolition materials, Roofing material.
The following items WILL be accepted:
Mattresses, Furniture, Yard Furniture, Water Heaters, Appliances, Metal junk items, Scrap Wood, Paint with lids REMOVED (MUST BE DRIED use cat litter), Carpet, Toilets, other misc junk and trash items that maybe cluttering your yard or you’ve had stashed behind the garage or yard shed that you’ve been putting off taking to the transfer station.
Residents should be prepared to unload their vehicles themselves. If in doubt of an item being accepted, call City Hall 852-2611.
On cleanup day, residents should enter on to Elliott St. from West Prospect St. Drive south on Elliott St. and turn west on West Division St. Have utility bill and ID ready.
IDs will be checked at the south side of the parking lot. If you do not have the required Utility Bill and ID, you will be directed in a safe direction out of the clean-up area.
Once your ID is verified you will be directed into the lot to empty your vehicle into a trash container. You will then be directed to exit the parking lot and West down Pine Street.. Do not enter from Pine Street.
Moore Tires has joined forces with the City of Kewanee to accept used tires at the old hospital site during the cleanup.

Passenger and light truck tires only.
No tires on rims. There is a limit of eight tires per household.
No debris in tires (rock, mud, concrete, etc.)
“We will collect the first 125 tires at no charge,” said city community development officer Keith Edwards. “After we’ve collected 125 tires, there will be a charge of $3.75 per tire to be paid at Moore Tire on site.
