
A Chicago man was arrested after he reportedly shot two men during a disturbance in the 400 block of North Lakeview Avenue Sunday.
Javon Porter, 36, was charged with the preliminary offenses of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, a Class 3 Felony, reckless discharge of a firearm, Class 4 felony, aggravated battery, a Class 4 felony and two charges of aggravated battery with a firearm, Class X felonies. He was transported to the Henry County Jail.
According to a release from the Kewanee Police Department, the incident occurred around 3:30 am when police were dispatched to North Lakeview Avenue on reports of a man with a gunshot wound to the chest. On arrival, officers met with numerous individuals involved in a disturbance prior to the shooting.
Law enforcement located the man lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the chest before locating a second man with a gunshot wound to his right shoulder. The victim with a chest wound was taken to OSF St. Francis Hospital by life flight, while the second victim was transported to OSF St. Luke Medical Center where he was treated and released.
The investigation into the incident, which included surveillance footage, witness statements and collected evidence, was conducted by the KPD, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, and the Illinois State Police. The Stark County Sheriff’s Office also assisted with the incident. The investigation led them to Porter, who was located at a residence in Kewanee.
Porter remains in custody to await formal charges from the Henry County State’s Attorney’s Office. He is charged with two Class X felonies. Each count carries a potential of six to 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
