Charlotte Gravitt, daughter of Debbie and Mike Gravitt of rural Galva has been named the Galva American Legion’s Miss Poppy for 2024.
Selected by the ladies auxiliary, her duties will include laying a wreath on the graves of soldiers Wilbur Hagberg and Dale Hamlin, for which the legion post is named. She will also hand out poppies on Poppy Day, held on Friday, May 24, and participate in the Galva Freedom Fest Parade.
A member of the Junior Auxiliary, Miss Gravitt will enter the third grade in the fall and enjoys helping the legion members with their Sunday breakfasts.
Both her father and maternal grandfather served in the military and “she considers all the Legion members to be her friends,” her mother said.
