Kewanee High School’s boys and girls golf teams were both in action this week.

The boys competed in a three-team meet against Rockridge and Mercer County at Baker Park. “Unfortunately, the team was unable to beat either team with their score of 177,” Coach Brett VanDeWostine said.

Rockridge shot a 161 while Mercer County shot a 176.

“Although we were unable to beat either school, the 177 is our season best score which is in great time as we are getting closer to regionals and conference,” VanDeWostine said.

Owen Laue and Reid Nichols continue to lead the team with lower scores, while freshman Lincoln Throneburg continues to have success.

Kewanee’s scores from the event:

Owen Laue – 41

Reid Nicols – 41

Jack Anderson – 54

Lincoln Throneburg – 45

James McGarvey – 50

Easton Blake – 50

The three teams also had a JV event at Baker Park. The JV team was unable to beat either team as Rockridge had a 193 and Mercer County had a 187, while the JV Boilermakers had a 209.

Although the JV team was unable to win, they had two quality scores, the coach said. Jaxon DeReu and Adam Keyser both shot 49.

“Adam and Jaxon keep improving each day, VanDeWostine said.

JV scores:

Jaxon Dereu and Adam Keyser – 49

Eli Mithcell 55

Liam Stevenson 56

Douglas Swearingen 69

Adrain Osborn 75

On Wednesday the Lady Boilermakers were in action at Byron Hills Golf Course in Port Byron. This meet was the 18-hole TRAC 8 Conference Championship.

“It was definitely a hot day out of the links but the ladies battled through the day and each shot their best 18 hole score of the year,” the coach said.

Sophie Hamilton shot 114 and Charlotte Burkhart 142.
