The Kewanee Boilermakers moved to 2-1 at the Geneseo Thanksgiving Shootout with a 62-33 win Friday over Erie-Prophetstown.

Coach Matt Clark was pleased with the way his team responded to the quick holiday turnaround.

“I thought we picked up where we left off Wednesday night. Sometimes it’s difficult to be ready to play an early morning game, especially after Thanksgiving,” said Clark. “We brought the team in early this morning to wake them up and get the legs going,” he added.

The strategy paid off as the Boilers led 11-5 after the first quarter and, again, had an impressive second quarter, lighting up the scoreboard for 27 points and building a 38-15 halftime lead.

Brady Clark scored 15 of his game-high 22 points in the second frame. Greyden Lewis and Blaise Lewis each had a trey in that stretch of play.

“Once again our second quarter put the game out of reach with a 27-10 quarter,” said Clark. “Our full court pressure bothered E-P most of the game which allowed us to get several easy looks in transition.”

Kewanee maintained the momentum in third quarter, outscoring E-P 18-11 and opening a 56-26 gap. Seven Boiler players scored in the third quarter.

In all, 10 Kewanee players scored in the game. “That’s a good sign,” said Clark. “We’re moving the ball well and cutting off the ball as well.”

Clark led all scorers with 22 points, Davontae Jordan and Blaise Lewis had eight apiece. Junior Murray and Brayden Conley each had six.

Kewanee wraps up tourney play Saturday at 10:30 a.m. against Rock Falls at Geneseo’s main gym. The Riveters take on the Rock Falls sophomores at 9 a.m. in the main gym.
