Kewanee’s baseball team advanced to the regional seminal of the IHSA state tournament
Quarterfinal win over Princeton
The Boilers traveled to Princeton Monday for the first game of the post-season and won 5-2.
Kewanee got on the board early, sending senior Colson Welgat to the mound with a lead.
Welgat threw a dominant six and a third, allowing one earned run on five hits, five walks and 10 strikeouts. Junior Logan Peed came in and collected the two remaining outs to seal the game with two strikeouts.
The offense was led by junior Griffin Hicks, who went one for one with two
walks, two RBIs and scored a run. Senior Ben Taylor went two for four with an RBI and two runs scored, and Welgat went three for four with an RBI.
Boilers’ season comes to an end
On Wednesday, Kewanee faced off against IVC in the regional semi-final and lost 6-5 in extra innings.
Peed threw an excellent six and a third innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits.
Senior Landon Sheets threw an inning and a third and allowed no earned runs or hits.
The Boilers held a 5-0 lead after five innings of play, but some errors and two IVC home runs led to a comeback win for the Grey Ghosts.
Peed led the offense with two hits, a walk, two RBIs and a run scored.
