Kewanee traveled to Princeton Monday night and came up short against conference foe, Princeton. The Boilers were down by just two at the half, 29-27, but the Tigers outscored Kewanee 32-28 in the second half to pull out the 61-55 win.
Braden Clark and Kashen Ellerbrock scored 10 and eight first-half points, respectively, for the Boilers. Daniel Sousa led Princeton with nine and Noah Laporte added eight.
“We started the game a little flat at both ends of the court,” said Kewanee Coach Matt Clark. “Our defense was out of position a few times early on and we gave Princeton some easy opportunities in the paint.”
Clark also felt his team played a little too much one-on-one on the offensive end, which hampered the team’s ability to create driving angles and perimeter looks. “Give credit to Coach Smith, he had his team ready to play,” noted Clark.
Princeton topped Kewanee by scores of 16-14 in final two quarters. Clark scored a dozen more points in the second half, while Blaise Lewis added nine and Ellerbrock scored five more.
Jordan Reinhardt made four 3-pointers en-route to scoring 12 second half points for Princeton. Laporte tossed in 10 more in the win.
Clark racked up 22 points, Ellerbrock had 13 and Lewis chipped in with 12. Laporte scored 18 for the Tigers, Reinhardt had 14 and Korte Lawson contributed nine.
Kewanee is now 11-6 overall and 2-1 in TRAC-East play and Princeton is 8-8 on the season and 4-1 in the conference.
Riveters
The Kewanee frosh-soph team beat Princeton 39-35. Abram Hicks led the Boilers with 13 points. The Riveters are 11-9 on the season.
