On Monday night, the Kewanee High School Boiler girls hosted the Newman Comets in Brockman Gym. This close nail-bitter ultimately ended in a victory for Kewanee, 49-42. 

In the first half, senior Mya Dearing and sophomore Bailey VanWinkle provided Kewanee with the bulk of its points. In addition to a two-pointer, Dearing brought home four successful free throws. VanWinkle made a three-pointer and two free throws.

In the second half, sophomore Damarias Diaz and senior Tejhiana Amos were the Boilers’ scoring leaders. Diaz added eight points to Kewanee’s total with four two-pointers, and Amos gave KHS three two-pointers.

Earlier in the evening, the visiting sophomore team took the W with a final score of 27-19.

On Wednesday, Jan. 8, the Boilers girls are hosting the AlWood Aces, with the tipoff in Brockman Gym set for 7 p.m. The next day, the team will hit the road and face the Mendota Trojans.
