
The Kewanee Boiler Girls played two games Wednesday at the Lady Bruin Christmas Classic and came out on the short end of both games.
Serena
In their first game of the day, Kewanee lost to Serena, 53-32. The Boiler Girls hung close in the 10-7 first quarter, but Serena caught fire in the second frame and outscored Kewanee 21-10.
Makayla McNally led the second quarter charge and put up nine points for the Huskers. Serena’s Jenna Setchell contributed eight first half points.
The Huskers outscored the Boiler Girls 22-15 in the second half and led 41-26 heading into the fourth quarter.
McNally led all scorers with 13 points. Setchell and Paisley Twait each scored a dozen.
Mya Dearing and Tejhiana Amos scored seven a piece for Kewanee.
Serena moves to 13-1 on the season. Their lone loss was to tourney host St. Bede (44-32) on Dec. 22.
The Boiler Girls fall to 3-11.
Fieldcrest
The Boiler Girls led 7-4 after one quarter of play, but the second quarter, again, proved to be the culprit in Kewanee’s downfall.
Fieldcrest outscored the Boiler Girls 27-12 in the second quarter and then took a 27-19 lead at the half.
Both teams scored 14 points in the third quarter, but the Knights held a 41-33 after three quarters of play. Both teams also scored 13 in the fourth frame, but the 11-point difference in second quarter proved pivotal in the Fieldcrest win.
Kaitlyn White scored a game-high 24 points for the Knights and Macy Gochanour chipped in with 12 points.
Mya Dearing led the Boiler Girls with 14 points and Damaris Diaz added 10.
Fieldcrest is now 11-5 on the season and Kewanee is 3-12.
