
Kewanee High School’s Boiler Girls defeated the Ridgewood Lady Spartans 7-4 Wednesday.
Ridgewood got on the board in the bottom of the first inning with two runs.
Kewanee gained the lead, 4-2, in the top of the second when a Lyric Duytschaver single scored one run, Macee Pickering delivered a two-RBI double and Rylee Blades’ fielders-choice ground out scored another.
A single by Evelyn Schiltz extended the Boiler Girls lead to 5-3 in the top of the third.
Kalleigh Gale pitched three and one-third innings in relief for Kewanee. She gave up three hits and no runs while striking out seven and walking none. Audrey Clucas also made a relief appearance. She pitched one and two-thirds innings giving up one hit, striking out one and walking one, while giving up no runs.
Duytschaver started in the circle for Kewanee. She gave up five hits and four runs (one earned) over two innings, striking out three and walking none.
Kewanee collected 12 hits in the game. Duytschaver led the way with three runs batted in. The pitcher/infielder went 2-for-4 on the day.
Kieryn Abernathy, Addy Yepsen, Duytschaver, Dani Jo Currier and Schiltz each collected two hits for Kewanee. Abernathy stole two bases.
Kewanee will travel to Mendota for a conference rematch on Thursday.
