The Kewanee Boiler Girls notched their first win of the season Saturday, defeating Stark County 48-16. The host Boiler Girls built leads of 33-10 at the half and 42-14 after three quarters of play.

Six Kewanee players scored in the first quarter and freshman Bailey VanWinkle led the way with six points. 

Junior Tejhiana Amos scored all of her eight points in the second quarter and fellow junior Mya Dearing scored seven of her 10 points in the second frame. 

Bailey VanWinkle scored seven more points in the second half. She led all scorers with 13 points. Peyten Hillier scored eight points for Stark County. 

Kewanee is 1-7 on the season and Stark County falls to 1-6.

Frosh-soph 

In the frosh-soph prelim, Kewanee beat Stark County 38-28. The Boiler Girls built a 20-4 lead at halftime and were ahead 27-18 by the end of the third quarter. 

Four Kewanee players scored four first half points (Audrey Clucas, Annie Campbell, Lillie Hampton and Remy Hicks). Clucas and Hicks each added five more points in the second half. 

Sophie Finnegan made three 3-pointers in the game for Stark County (two in the second half). Tessah Potter added seven and Addy Westphal scored six in the final two quarters. 

Clucas, Hicks and Finnegan shared game-high honors with nine points each.
