The Kewanee Police, along with the Henry County Sheriff’s Office and the Illinois State Police, located a body in the rural areas west of Kewanee, according to a news release from the Kewanee Police Department.

On Friday, May 30, authorities conducted a coordinated search of that area. During the search, a resident who resides in the area began checking nearby properties of which they had access. That citizen located a body and immediately notified authorities.

Officers responded and verified the find, and the ISP Crime Scene Unit processed the location.

“Due to the condition of the body, a positive identification cannot be confirmed at this time. An autopsy has been scheduled for early next week in Peoria,” the news release said.

Law enforcement is thanking “the concerned citizen for their initiative and willingness to assist in the search.”
