At an assembly on Monday, 80 Visitation School students received some positive tools for dealing with bullies. Matt Wilhelm, a BMX bike rider and participant on “America’s Got Talent” spoke with the student body and performed bike tricks, even jumping over two of the students’ teachers, Mrs. Gibson and Mr. Roemer.

“He was fun,” said Erin Stevenson, administrative assistant and finance manager for the school. “The kids had a really good time.”

Wilhelm is a Guinness World record holder and the 2022 USA National Champion. Hailing from the Chicago area, he often visits schools in Illinois. After grabbing students’ attention with tricks, Wilhelm shares his own personal story of how one small act of kindness changed him from a bullied kid to a BMX champ.

His anti-bullying school assemblies focus on kindness, positivity and the difference one person can make, according to his website. His motivational talks, while entertaining, are intended for elementary and middle schools and demonstrate social and emotional learning. The goal is to reach out to the most “at-risk” students and inspire, motivate and promote fun.
