With three third-quarter touchdowns, the Annawan-Wethersfield Titans turned a close game into a 35-0 rout of visiting Monmouth United Friday.

After a first half in which the only scoring was a nine-yard touchdown run by A-W quarterback Dillon Horrie in the first quarter, the Titans took the third-quarter kickoff at midfield and scored in seven plays. The touchdown came on a four-yard run by Zeb Rashid.

14-0.

On the ensuing possession the Red Storm found themselves with a fourth and 1 at their 24-yard line, and decided to go for it. But the Titan defense, led by Rashid, stopped them, and turned the game over to the offense.

Four plays later, Horrie ran it in from the 8.

21-0.

The Annawan-Wethersfield defense again stopped the Red Storm on three plays. Ffacing a fourth and 10 on their own 25, United decided to punt this time.

The Titans got the ball on their 42 and scored in six plays on a nine-yard run by Rashid with just 25 seconds left in the quarter.

Rashid carried the ball on five of the six plays.

28-0.

Annawan added their final touchdown on a 20-yard run by Brody Childs with a minute and a half left in the game.

The Red Storm running game, led by Jason McElwee and Tony Rodriguez, controlled the ball for much of the first half, but they never made it across the goal line.

They came close, driving to the Titans’ 1-yard line in the closing minutes of the half and facing fourth and goal. But the Titans defense stopped Rodriguez just short of the end zone.

The win puts the Titans at 3-1 heading into next week’s game against Abingdon-Avon in Abingdon. Monmouth United falls to 2-2.
