Residents lined up at the door of the Kewanee Salvation Army Thursday waiting for the store to open in order to receive their children’s Angel Tree gifts.
Each year, the Salvation Army places angel tags on a public Christmas tree at Walmart. Residents then pull the tags, purchase the gifts on the tag and return the gifts to the organization. The gifts are then bagged for distribution that occurs about a week before Christmas.
Heather Dana and Amber Patch Troxell are the coordinators of the event, which provides toys and clothing to Kewanee children in need.
