The Annawan-Wethersfield boys cross country team will make its first trip ever to the state finals, after placing third Saturday in the Class 1A sectional at Rock Island Alleman.

A-W, with 155 points, finished behind Rockford Christian (52 points) and Winnebago (77).

The first finisher in for the Titans was Karson Shrum, who was 18th in a time of 16:35.0.

Other A-W finishers were Noah Feltner 22nd (16:45.5), Daylon Hendrix 41st (17:14/3), Logan Davis 44th (17:26.3) and Cash Verstraete 56th (17:46.4).

Miles Wied also ran for the Titans.

Stark County’s Evan Knobloch placed seventh at Alleman in a time of 15:59.7.

Other area schools finishing in the top 20 were Princeville fourth, ROWVA 13th and Bureau Valley 17th.

Wethersfield athletic director Tom McGunnigal said the A-W team will leave Wethersfield High School at 11 a.m. on Friday for the state finals in Peoria.
