A 15-year-old male is in the Mary Davis Detention Home in Galesburg following reports of gunshots from the old boiler shop property.

On July 2, at approximately 2:45 pm, Kewanee police responded to the 100 block of Franklin Street after reports of gunshots originating from the former boiler company property.

According to a press release from the Kewanee Police Department, the caller observed two individuals running away from the property shortly after the gunshots were reported. The caller was able to provide a detailed description and a direction of travel of the two subjects.

Officers arriving in the area located an 18-year-old male and a 15-year-old male who matched the description provided by the caller. Officers then searched both subjects. During the search of the 15-year-old minor’s bag, officers found a 9mm semi-automatic Ruger pistol with a loaded magazine.

The juvenile was placed under arrest and taken to the Galesburg detention home. According to the police blotter, the 15-year-old male was arrested for criminal trespass to real property, possession of less than 10 grams of cannabis, unlawful use of weapon, aggravated unlawful use of weapon, and possession of firearm without a FOID card

In the press release, the KPD thanked the individual who reported the gunshots to the police department and for providing such a detailed description of the suspects, as well as the direction of travel.
